Our MISSION

The Sonia Sotomayor Elementary PTA works to make every child’s potential a reality by supporting their education, health, and well-being. We foster a strong, inclusive school community through family engagement, volunteerism, and meaningful programs that uplift all students.

By advocating for our children and building partnerships between families, educators, and the community, we aim to create an environment where every student can learn, grow, and thrive.

Nominate an Owl-Star

Each month, we want to spotlight one of our amazing PTA members, volunteers, teachers, or families who help make Sonia Sotomayor Elementary such a special place.

Whether they’re planning events, donating snacks, offering great ideas, or lending a helping hand, our Owl-Stars remind us what makes this community so great.

November OWL-Star

Each month, we want to spotlight one of our amazing PTA members, volunteers, teachers, or families who help make Sonia Sotomayor Elementary such a special place.

This month's Owl-Star is Liz Villegas!

I am proud to nominate Mrs. Liz Villegas for the November Owl Star award. She consistently demonstrates acceptance, love and understanding in meeting the unique needs of her students.

During our zoo field trip, Mrs. Liz thoughtfully prepared a detailed itinerary to ensure her students felt safe and supported in a new environment outside of their daily routine. She utilized a voice amplifier so that students with sensory needs could hear her clearly in a noisy setting, and she encouraged her students to use the amplifier themselves so their voices could be heard and valued.

Mrs. Liz fosters inclusion by inviting general education peers into her classroom to play and learn alongside her students, creating meaningful opportunities for connection and friendship. She collaborates with her team to ensure her students can fully participate in school-wide events such as assemblies, parades, and the APEX fun run.

Mrs. Liz’s commitment to her students’ learning, growing, and empowerment makes her an outstanding role model and a deserving recipient of the November Owl Star recognition.
